Scrooge the Musical

East Surrey Operatic Society and the Opera Club of Reigate and Redhill joined together in 2009 to stage "Scrooge the Musical" at the Harlequin Theatre, Redhill from 24th to 28th November 2009. The Musical Director was Angela Barker and we welcomed John Taylor as Director.

Rehearsals began in May 2009 with Children's Workshops and Auditions in June 2009.

Earlier in the year, we staged a joint concert, "Musical Twist" for two nights at the Harlequin Theatre, Redhill from 27th to 28th March 2009. It featured members from both societies performing excerpts from past (and future) shows and was directed by Paul Longhurst with Angela Barker as Musical Director and Vanessa Chambers as Choreographer.

Thank You Very Much!

Thank you to everyone who came to see Scrooge the Musical. We had a great week at the Harlequin and hope that you enjoyed the performances.

A particular thank you to everyone who made the show possible - to John Taylor and Angela Barker for their splendid direction, to those looking after the Costumes, the Props and Make up and Hair, to Michael Persad (the Stage Manager) and the Backstage Team, to Ian Fagg and Sue Wernham on Lighting and Sound, to everyone who sold programmes, to the children (and to Ali Bond and her team of chaperones for keeping them in order), to the Harlequin Team, to the musicians and to everyone else who helped - Thank You Very Much.

Both societies have exciting projects for 2010 - ESOS are staging a Youth Production of The Wizard of Oz in August, Opera Club are performing Disney's Beauty and the Beast in October 2010.

Director's Ditty!

Our Director for Scrooge the Musical, John Taylor, demonstrated his musical and creative prowess in re-writing the words to Scrooge's song 'It's Not My Fault' and performing it during the meal between the shows.

Scrooge's Blog - the final entry

So, this is it – Scrooge’s last blog.

What can I say?!  A fantastic end last night to an amazing week.  I think – but am not sure – that we sold out last night as well as the matinée…a rapturous audience and a fitting end to the week.
